By the end of this post, you are going to confidently prepare for your postpartum healing journey by making postpartum padsicles yourself.
This post is all about how to make the best postpartum padsicles.
Step-by-Step Process to make your postpartum padsicles
Step one: Get your stuff for your postpartum padsicle!
All you need are three simple ingredients of your choice: Pads, Aloe, and Witch Hazel. The products listed are the exact products I used (I actually used facial toner Witch Hazel and it worked great) , but you can choose whatever you want. Odds are, you already have all three!
Once you have all of your products, you are ready to make your postpartum padsicles! It is best to make them in bulk, so you can easily access them while you are healing.
You also might be wondering how many postpartum padsicles you should make. During my healing journey, I used about two each day for three to four days. So, you could make 5-10 postpartum padsicles.

Step two: Grab your Pad
First, you’ll need a pad. Once you have the pad of your choice, open it up. If it has wings, leave the wrapper on one side so you can reuse it when you put it in the freezer.
Depending on the heaviness of the bleeding postpartum, you may want to consider a thicker pad. When I made my postpartum padsicles, I used a thinner pad because I practically lived in diapers during my heavier bleeding days.
I highly recommend diapers in the early stages of recovery because they are so comfortable and can be worn for longer periods of time. The best part about wearing a diaper is that you won’t ruin your nice underwear!
Step three: Apply your aloe to your pad
Now, it is time to apply your Aloe. Truthfully, I do not measure anything here, I just put whatever my heart desires. Just put a generous amount of Aloe. I think I did about 1-2 Tablespoons. You can do more or less as you desire.
Any Aloe that you have will work perfect for this! I did not have to purchase any new Aloe for my postpartum padsicles, I just used what I already had. This is honestly the best part because it only takes three ingredients, and you probably have them!
Once you have it on the pad, then you will just take a spoon and spread it evenly. I like to do one pad at a time, but if you wanted to do it bulk, this would be the time to get your other pads out. Open your pads and repeat the process. I made about 5-10 padsicles using this postpartum padsicles recipe.
Step Four: Apply your witch hazel
There should be a thin layer of Aloe already evenly spread on your pad. Now you’ll apply your Witch Hazel. The Thayers brand is the best for witch hazel, but any brand will work! I don’t measure the witch hazel either. I just put a generous amount to my liking and move on. If I would guess, I would say about 1-2 Teaspoons.
Remember when I said to keep the wrapper on one side of the wings (if you have them). Now is the time to close the wings and place the wrapper on both of them and fold it all up.
After this process is done, fold up your padsicle like it was never touched and stick it in the freezer. If you like to do things in bulk, apply witch hazel to each pad and then fold them up.
Final step: Fold up your postpartum padsicles and stick them in the freezer!
By now, you have all of your postpartum padsicles made to your liking and put in the freezer. Making these during the final stages of your pregnancy will absolutely enhance your healing journey. You will definitely be thanking yourself for being prepared once your sweet baby has arrived.
Padsicles not only feel great, but they have amazing healing properties. The ingredients in the aloe and witch hazel can help reduce pain, swelling, bruising, and relieve discomfort from stitches or hemorrhoids. (This is not medical advice, this is what worked for me. Read full disclaimer here.)
